Frequently asked questions
Is an invoice marked 'paid' the same as a payment receipt?
Both can prove payment. A separate receipt helps when one payment covers several invoices, when payments come in instalments, or when the customer's accounts team asks for one.
What if a payment only covers part of the invoice?
Issue the receipt for the amount actually received and show the balance still owed on that invoice. Do not mark the invoice as paid until the balance is zero.
Should I send a receipt for a card payment?
Card processors often send their own confirmation, but it rarely names your invoice. A short payment receipt that quotes the invoice number keeps both sets of books aligned.
